Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
It works just like a regular clipper guard, but with one big improvement: a built-in stem guide. The stem stays in contact with your head as you cut upward, which makes the guard naturally move away from the hair. This creates a smooth taper that blends the sides and back into the top without harsh lines.
Does the taper guard leave lines?
No — when used as directed, it blends hair seamlessly. For best results, make multiple passes from different angles, just like the pros do.
What clippers does it fit?
Most at-home clippers sold at Walmart, Target, and other big box stores.
✔ Compatible with: Wahl Basic Home Kit, Multi-Cut Home Kit, Premium Home Kit, Deluxe Home Kit (models 9100, 9200, 9400, 9600, 9700, 8640-500, 8645-500, 8643-500), Taper 2000 (8472-850, 8472-700, M/C, S/c), plus the Andis inCRED and Andis Ultra Clip.
👉 Easy test: if your clipper uses the Wahl 1045 replacement blade, these guards will fit.
Will you make universal guards?
Not at this time. While universal guards sound convenient, they sacrifice accuracy — especially for taper cuts. I’d rather give you a perfect blend than a one-size-fits-all compromise.
Will you make guards for professional clippers?
Yes — versions for the TPOB Play/Slime 2 blade and Wahl Magic Clip blade are currently in development.
Hairpoon? Really?
Yup. From the side it looks like a harpoon, and I’m not passing up a good dad joke. If it makes you laugh before a haircut, that’s a win too.
Are 3D printed guards durable?
Yes. These aren’t “cheap 3D prints” — they’re made with high-grade, impact-resistant filament on professional machines. Each guard is designed and stress-tested using civil engineering principles to handle years of regular use.
Is it easy for beginners?
Absolutely. If you can use a normal clipper guard, you can use these. The stem guide actually makes blending easier, even if you’ve never cut hair before.
Can I clean it?
Yes. Rinse it under warm water and let it dry. The material is water-resistant and won’t warp from washing.
What sizes are available?
Hairpoon guards are currently available in #0.5, #1, #1.5, #2, and #3. The Doulbe Tap(er) guards are available in fade kits, sizes #0.5, #1, and #1.5, with more options in development.
What if it breaks?
Every guard comes with a 365 day guarantee. If it cracks or fails under normal use, I’ll replace it free of charge.
Where are they made?
Proudly designed, tested, and produced in Huntsville, Rocket City, Alabama.
